This is one day after the accident. Jada had ran into the garage and we were trying to get out the door for Trey's baseball practice. I wasn't quite ready and told Jada to close the door (as it was still really hot outside). Well, she apparently did not like my request, so she came back to the door and from the garage slammed it. Unknowing to her, our sweet helpful Levi had decided he would go and close the door from the inside. Barely able to reach the door knob, he was standing on his tippie toes and trying to slowly inch the door backwards to close it - right when Jada came back and slammed it. The door slammed right over his toes, taking the skin and much of his big toenail off! Oh, it was so bad. And at first, out of sympathy for Levi, I started to yell at Jada. Then realized she hadn't meant to do that, so I stopped and tried to calmly explain that this is why we have to be careful of what we do, and that we have to control our tempers! All the while trying to stop the bleeding and see exactly what the damage was. While it was extremely painful, I'm sure, it didn't look like we needed to go to the emergency room or anything. So we stopped the bleeding and put a cold paper towel on it while we got Trey to baseball practice. Levi was in pain for a while afterwards. But after some ibuprofen and a warm bath, he calmed down and actually slept through the night. The next morning it didn't seem to bother him too much. Still sore and tender, but not excruciating pain - which I was fearing might be the case. So, after several weeks, this did eventually heal, though not 100 % normally. He's still got some issues. For example, this toe seems to be so vulnerable to injury - probably because the nail is not fully developed yet. But, the pediatrician says not to worry about it - just keep our eye on it for ingrown toe nails as the nail tries to grow back. So, that 's what we will do. And hopefully - lesson learned, and we won't be dealing with this (or anything like this) again!
