Jack Pot

I wish I'd been told before this week started, that my stars were going to be aligned and that this week would be all about ME!  Or, perhaps I've just made it all about me.  Not sure which, but either way I am on cloud 9!  I'm totally skipping a couple months worth of posts (which I promise I will get to in the next couple weeks) but I just could not resist posting about the loot I've found this week.

A little background info:  I NEVER shop.  And when I do, it's with my list, I get what's on my list and get out.  Usually I've got 4 kiddos running around, screaming/crying, pulling things off shelves, hitting... (as most Mom's can relate to).  Needless to say, on the rare occasion I am by myself, I've got a list 100 miles long that I would like to accomplish in the 1 hour I have, and generally nothing ever really gets accomplished. And as far as the house goes, as soon as I've got something cleaned up, it is spilled on, toys thrown all over, the cat throws up, or something and the house just always is a cluttered mess.  However, this week has been different!  To start, in my 30 minutes I had before I had to get home to the babysitter on Tuesday I stopped by TJ Maxx/Home Goods and found some throw pillows, a skirt, a pair of shoes and a shirt.  I bought everything expecting to return most of it.  I ended up only returning the shirt!  Then, that afternoon, both Trey and Jada went to a friends house to play and the babies both slept (Seth for 3 hours, Levi for 4)!!!  I got the whole house cleaned up and scrubbed almost!  It felt so good.  Between having the house clean and the new throw pillows something in my brain got jump started and I got put back in "home mode" again (which is basically all the shopping I do, I have the house in mind and pick up things that will either help decorate or fix the house).  So that night, after Young Women, I took a few minutes to peruse Target and got another pair of shoes, a pair of paints, another shirt and a curtain rod for our room. Then, to top off the shopping luck, Thursday I ran some stuff to our GoodWill store here (ACO) and decided to stop in for a minute and press my luck.  I got a little coat and some stainless steel pans that I've been thinking of switching to!  I'd also seen a sewing machine - one that is in the table.  I debated.  I took a picture and looked at the model and decided I would do a little research on it, as I could tell it was older, despite being in what looked like pretty good shape.  I came home and looked it up.  I found, and watched a You-Tube video on how to use the machine.  I was getting more and more excited about it for some reason.  My current sewing machine is being held together by duct tape as the rod for the thread had been pulled off over a year ago.  I haven't had much time to sew lately so it hadn't been an issue.  However, lately I've been really trying to figure out if I should get it fixed or find a new one.  Hence my debate when I saw the one at the GoodWill store.  Well, I decided to go back with some material and see if it worked or if was going to take some major overhaul.  It was still there and worked great actually!  An older woman there was watching me, then helping me to get the machine up and running.  Then I realized I had a coupon at home and since I needed it to use it, this sweet woman stayed and watched the machine for me while I ran home to get my coupon!  An angel she is, I tell you.  She couldn't believe the deal I was getting!  So, after all that, here is the 1964 Singer 600e beauty I brought home for $40!  It came with all the attachments, cleaning oil, tools, brushes, some thread and bobbins scissors and the original books!  I could hardly contain my excitement!

Also as I was waiting to pay, found an adorable silver teapot with sugar and cream containers that match a set of measuring spoons I'd gotten from Anthropology for Christmas from Trent a couple years back.  By this point, I was approaching euphoria!  I came home and played with it quite a bit that night.  However, I found that, alas, even a new sewing machine does not get rid of old problems.  After a little playing, I started in with my nemesis - the bobbin!  I finally put it away before I got upset or lost my excitement with my purchase.  I actually just determined that I needed someone to help me with sewing and teach me what I'm doing wrong, because it is very clear that it is definitely user problems and not machine problems!!

To finish the week, I went and got a much needed massage this afternoon. I felt a little guilty,  I have to admit.  But it felt so good, and I'm hoping will alleviate Trent from having to rub my back out every night for the next 3 weeks.  We will see.    So, as I said before...  this week was all about ME!  And to be honest, the sheer surprise of all this just added to the excitement and fun of the week.  Happy Unbirthday to me, I guess!!
